Choosing gender neutral baby room colors can be daunting. Use these colors to make a gorgeous nursery. Find out which paint colors to use for a non-boring nursery.
Happy day, my friend!
We are literally less than a week away from “new baby” arriving as I write this post.
Baby Ciz #2 has been long awaited and it's a little freaky to me as I write this how close we are to two under two.
In preparation for my maternity leave, I got ahead on some of the posts I wanted to share with you, so as you read this, I am most likely curled up with a little newborn soaking in all the snuggles.
We found out the gender of our first because I wanted to make sure I was as prepared as possible, but this time around, we decided to be surprised.
If you missed the story on why we decided to make the gender a surprise, let me give you a quick overview.
I'm a super planner. Love planning. Love being prepared.
So, naturally we were going to find out the gender again with a gender reveal.
Well, I accidentally opened the genetic test results early on in this pregnancy and it said… it's a girl!
So I kind of ruined the surprise until…
I realized that I was reading the genetic testing results for my already born daughter.
Whomp. Whomp.
My husband decided it was a sign that we should wait to find out.
I obliged.
It's been hard to make decisions and feel prepared, but everyone says it's one of the best surprises.
And I love a good surprise.
You'll have to jump over to my Instagram page to get an update on our little bundle of joy.
But today, I want to share with you how you can use color to make a non-boring gender neutral nursery using a little color psychology and some of my go-to paint colors.
Let's get to it!

The Color Psychology
In college, I minored in Psychology because I find it so fascinating how the brain works.
In my current line of business, color psychology can totally make or break the aesthetic of a room – especially a baby's room.
Last thing you want is to paint a baby's room some color you didn't know made them want to join a band at 4 months old so they could rock and roll all night and party every day lol.
My favorite resource for understanding color psychology is found in the post I wrote talking about the basics on how to choose colors for your home.
The quick gist for a baby's room is this…
- Use warm colors in moderation in a nursery because they are stimulating and energizing, which doesn't bode well for bedtime protocol.
- Cool colors have a more calming, relaxing effect making them more ideal for a baby's room. However, you want to be careful not to choose cool colors that are too stormy or gloomy either.

So, what colors will work best in a baby's room?
Let me share with you my personal picks…

Since we are in the two under two stage of life, we have two nursery's.
Above, you can see my gender neutral nursery color scheme.
For the paint colors, I chose cooler tones…
And then followed up the decor with varying hints of green and blue with a touch of coral coupled with warm wood tones.
To keep the room from being too cool, I find that introducing warm wood tones is really helpful for balance.

Gender Neutral Baby Room Colors (Room 2)
Even though this next room is technically my daughter's room, there are a lot of elements that could go in the gender neutral direction.
For this room's paint colors, I used…
Other than the blush curtains and girly animal artwork shown above, this room could have easily been swapped over for a little boy's room.
The whole room is safari-themed with light-colored wood tones, hints of light gray, subtle patterns, and pops of blush.
Instead of the blush, I would pair navy or shades of green throughout to make it more of a gender neutral palette.
